Flying Star system has been very popular and commonly used by practitioners and masters. If used correctly, it is an adequate indicative method. Many of you who have been practising and using by now may have certain doubts as to its practicality. It could be that sometimes it is correct and other times it's not. Other than due to the lack of skill and knowledge, the other possibility is that the system itself is flawed. Especially when comes to providing remedies and also understanding the long-term effects of the environment property.
Many masters were trained with a certain method or faithfully adopt one school of thought without studying into the underlying concerns of its accuracy. The following are just some of the concerns:
There have been too much reliance on the reference of 沈竹礽 which is just one of the commentary author. Many inexperience practitioners are also very interior base oriented. Such a scene is not difficult to spot when one walks through your property. It is even obvious of their knowledge and experience when they have to give you a report another day.
***When you engage a master, assessment should be on the spot. If it is not, there are roughly 2 possibilities: a) The practitioner is not sure and need to go back to ask the seniors or refer to his notes. b) The master has took too many appts and you probably have to wait for the report from 2-3weeks.
The application of flying star is quite similar to 紫白太岁法。More of a predicament of auspiciousness.
Here is not to discourage anyone not to use flying star system but in order to use it as an indicative tool, certain aspects must be realised that it won't work. Eg. Suggesting a colored rug or painting/ crystals for remedy. Suggesting a painting or a colored mat is only part contributing to the remedy. It is not the whole of the remedy. It is also amusing that some practitioners didn't know where the 9 stars actually belong to?
The period of use also became debatable with different schools or individuals.
沈also emphasize on 天心 but have neglected the following of "秘密在玄空".
Even a simple 兼向 caused much confusion among them as to the reason or technique to apply. The use of 坤壬乙巨门从头出 also has much controversy within his text with the absence of 3,4 and 8 数.
Overall, many have concentrated on the aspects of "use" and have forgotten the existence of "body".
The above is written for those who have read or attempted to understand flying stars.
It is to tell you that if you want to learn, you better learn carefully and from the right source. If you want to practise, these are just the tip of the iceberg, of inaccurate knowledge can be very dangerous both to yourself and to others.

Many inexperience or ignorant fsm talks about water stars and mountain stars from an apprentice perspective. They would suggest eg. for health, place a crystal/stone as mountain to activate the mountain star. Such a recommendation is considered inappropriate without first understanding true forms, bagua, balancing, interior/exterior, beneficial to who and last but not least, works or not.
Eg.
In the appropriate period in ancient china, there is a "star" that helps people to do well in exams. This "star" needs to be supported by the correct landform to be able to benefit. Currently, some fsms assimilate this will a wen chang pagoda. The result will tell by itself, however, is there any point that need to go through this experiment with/by such a fsm?
As most of you have found out during the course of your study or as a practitioner, that flying star sometimes works and sometimes don't. Some of you realise that after reading some commentaries or even learning from a master, the formulaes seem to be contradictary.
Yes, it is flawed. Therefore, whether your house is audited by people or you audit for people, be very careful if you believe in the power of feng shui.
